To the Editor:

Regarding the Oct. 24 issue of West Newsmagazine (“St. Louis County Police respond to area concerns about serial rapist”), I am excited that people are taking a proactive position on the predatory violence against women. Our community needs this very much.

As a self-defense instructor and a retired Marine, I take the safety and security of law abiding citizens seriously. I commend the Krav Maga folks in their service to our community. I am familiar with Krav Maga from spending time in Israel and in their gun defense courses. It is a good form of combatives.

Recently I graduated from the West County Citizen’s Policy Academy, where I was enlightened about the reality of violence and crime in our community.

It serves our citizenship well by being exposed to such programs like this, and I encourage people to attend. Like the military, the law enforcement community has some really dedicated, caring people in it. Their service is commendable.

Concerning the victimization of women by these vile predators, it should be noted that – as well as profiling his victims as “Asian” women – this predator is looking for “easy prey.”  Typically, the aggressor attacks when he thinks he has the advantage and his risk of failure is minimal.  This is why predators use violence or the threat of violence, because it works.
